HOW OUR FEES WORK
We are a private fee-for-service, Brisbane Northside Emergency Hospital.
In almost all instances, patient out-of-pocket expenses for all conditions should not exceed $350*.
Many of our patients come back and see us for follow-up care and treatment.
Your follow-up visits are billed at MBS rates – meaning little or no additional out-of-pocket expense after your initial visit†.

You do not need private health insurance to come to Brisbane Northside Emergency.
- Private health insurance does not cover any of your emergency visit fee.
- Private emergency health insurance only covers costs associate with in-patient hospital care.
- Brisbane Northside Emergency is an out-patient facility; therefore, it does not receive a private health fund rebate.
- Even if you are admitted from Brisbane Northside Emergency into a hospital, there is no private insurance rebate for your emergency care.
HOW TO MAKE A PAYMENT
- Electronic Medicare payment, EFTPOS and credit card payment systems are available.
- Patients are required to finalise their account after their consultation with the doctor, and before they leave the hospital.
- Pathology tests and x-rays are not included in the Private Hospital Emergency
- The providers of these services will bill separately.
- Fees will be explained to you in more detail on arrival.
FEES FAQs
Brisbane Northside Emergency is an independently owned, fee-for service, private hospital emergency centre.
Since we are an out-patient facility, we are not covered by any insurance system. All private emergency facilities require that you pay a GAP payment of approximately $300.
Our emergency centre is located onsite at Holy Spirit Northside Private Hospital.
Therefore, independently owned radiology and pathology services are available 24 hours a day and are invoiced separately to Brisbane Northside Emergency.
Brisbane Northside Emergency is also not a Department of Veteran’s Affairs (DVA) provider. We cannot process any DVA accounts.
If you are insured by the DVA and your referring doctor has made arrangements, you can be directly admitted for emergency care at Holy Spirit Northside Private Hospital under your private consultant.
Alternatively, The Prince Charles Emergency Department can manage DVA patients.
Experienced doctors and nurses will see you within moments of arriving (if not immediately).

Brisbane Northside Emergency provides private hospital emergency care across most specialties. A doctor’s referral is not necessary to visit our private hospital emergency department.
Brisbane Northside Emergency does not offer major multi-trauma or psychiatry services or see obstetrics patients at +22 weeks. Patients requiring these services should contact a public sector or relevant facility.
With your approval, we will send your treatment notes to your GP when you are discharged.

Your follow up-visits are billed at MBS rates, meaning you will have little or no additional out-of-pocket expense after your initial visit.
You can review the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) for a listing of the Medicare services subsidised by the Australian Government.
You will be charged for each service delivered in our private hospital emergency treatment.
Out-patient care is a medical service that does not require a prolonged stay at a facility.
On the other hand, in-patient care is any medical service that requires hospital admission.
Private emergency health insurance only covers costs associated with in-patient hospital care. Since we are an out-patient facility, your initial emergency care does not receive a health fund rebate or any private emergency health insurance cover.
You do not need private emergency health insurance to visit Brisbane Northside Emergency.
The private health insurance rebate is the amount the government contributes towards the cost of your private hospital health insurance premiums.
Brisbane Northside Emergency is an out-patient facility, and therefore your fees will not be covered by the health fund rebate.
